How to Choose Flooring When Building Your New Home

One of the decisions any homeowner who is building has to make is what to do about the flooring in a new build. Flooring decisions are tricky because it might not seem to be an important decision, but if you don’t decide well, you are going to be walking on something that doesn’t work for you and your needs for a while. Here are some suggestions for types of flooring that can be used in a new home.

Stone Flooring

We love stone flooring for several reasons. If you are building a home and you want the floors to look natural, or even rustic, stone flooring is a good choice. Stone floors come in a variety of materials, including marble and sandstone. We can also do a stone floor made of repurposed stone. Stone flooring is easy to clean up as well–a simple sweep with a broom should do the trick. Stone flooring stays naturally cool, which is no small feat in South Florida. These floors may be a great choice for your entryway or foyer. We’ve also seen stone floors in mudrooms and sunrooms.

Hardwood in a home from Nutter Custom Construction

If you love stone, you might also want to consider tile as well. We love using tile in bathrooms, kitchens, and entryways as well. It is easy to clean up, which makes it a great choice for places you have to clean a lot, such as the kitchen and bathroom.

Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are a great choice for flooring. Many people love their classic beauty and the warmth they bring into a home. If you are concerned about the environment, hardwood flooring is available using recycled or repurposed wood. However, you need to consider your home and the people living in it. Hardwood floors can be damaged by dropping heavy objects onto, as well as by pets. Hardwood floors can be used in any room that you like in the home, but we caution against using them in bathrooms.

What About Laminate?

If you want the look of stone or wood, but you don’t want the upkeep, or you’re on a budget, you may want to look at laminate flooring. The flooring comes in tons of color and style choices, and is easy to keep clean.
